Monthly Linguistic Sessions

Are you a BSL user at Level 2, 3, 4 or 6? Would you like to understand more about the structure and grammar of BSL? We are offering a monthly, Linguistic session on the fourth Thursday of the month, from 7pm to 9pm in Haywards Heath. Come and join us and with the support of Deaf tutors, take the opportunity to learn more and practise the various Linguistic elements of BSL. Advanced booking not required, just turn up on the evening. £10 entrance charge on the door.

Course dates: Saturday, 16th and Sunday, 17th March 2019 and Saturday, 30th and Sunday, 31st March (Participants need to attend all four sessions).

Tessa Padden, MA is a qualified Deaf Interpreter and Translator as well as a BSL Teacher trainer and an experienced teacher of BSL and Linguistics at University level.

We are delighted to welcome Tessa to BSL Link for Communication to teach this 20 hour course, consisting of 4 workshops over two weekends. The course will include aspects such as; the Conditional Clause, BSL Semantics, Simultaneous Signs, Syntactic Space, Tenses/Time Markers, Non-Manual Features (NMF), Negation, Morphology, Verb classes and Classifiers. The sessions will consist of presentations, group work, video clips and handouts.

Participants will also be expected to study independently between sessions, homework exercises will be provided for personal practise and development.

The course is ideal for those studying Level 4 and Level 6 British Sign Language and for Deaf people, professionals and teachers with an interest in the structure of BSL.
